Feed to Food

Certain grains, for both consumption and feed, have shaped the history, landscape, and cultures of North America.

In the "Feed to Food" project, we provide visual information, productive opportunities, and narrative examples of how grains and grain products can create resilient and beautiful food systems and how biodiversity can be fostered through culinary cultures.

This project uses GIS and Google data projections to create a map of the grains being grown in our region, with specific interest in agricultural capacity, retail distribution, processing, and sales of grains and grain products. Through mapping, we can learn more about which grains are being utilized for animal feed, and which grains are being used for human consumption, and attempt to open more local markets for locally sourced grains.
