STORYTELLING & SOCIAL CHANGE: FOOD NARRATIVES FOR LIBERATION

FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 6TH, 3:00 pM EST

Stories allow us to share knowledge from our lived experience, shape our own narratives, and determine the way history is recorded. Food is a vessel in which they can be carried. Now more than ever, we must rely on storytelling as an art, a cultural practice and a source of empowerment which radically defies the sources of inequity which have long reigned over our food system. First-hand documentation and sharing of the experiences, goals, accomplishments, celebrations, and hardships of marginalized groups within the system is critical; listening to, respecting, and supporting these communities and narratives is essential. This panel centers the work of women, Black, Indigenous, and people of color whose work uses food to build networks of support, and amplify the connection between community and social change. The work and expertise of the panelists illuminate the value of storytelling in creating connection and strengthening communities across the food system.
